Giants Lock Down Cornerback Newsome Mid-Season
On Tuesday, the New York Giants secured the future of a key member of their secondary. They reached an agreement on a contract extension with 26-year-old starting cornerback Greg Newsome II, valued at $46 million. The deal ensures that Newsome will continue to wear a New York Giants jerseys for the next three years.
Newsome was selected 26th overall in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, but he was unable to secure a long-term contract there. After being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars, he only stayed in that job for half a season. This offseason, the Giants signed Newsome to a one-year contract and gave him the number 20 nfl jersey.
Nothing is more appealing than a stable job. Through the first eight weeks, Newsome has contributed 17 tackles, 6 passes defended, and 1 interception for the Giants, helping the team achieve a 4–2–1 record and the top spot in the NFC East. Thanks to this performance, Newsome has finally earned a long-term, guaranteed contract.
